    Welcome to Math 9 Assessment
"It is now left to each of you concerned with the teaching and learning of mathematics to read the standards, to share them with colleagues, and to reflect on their vision. Consider what needs to be done and what you can do, and collaborate with others to implement the standards for the benefit of our students, as well as for our social and economic future."
                                                  - Curriculum and Evaluation Standards For School Mathematics, March, 1989.

This website was created by Brenda White, Math teacher at Dr. John Hugh Gillis, Antigonish, in consultation with David DeCoste in the capacity of Math Consultant with the Strait Regional School Board and Education Professor at  St. Francis Xavier University.

The purpose of this site is to provide Grade 9 Math teachers in Nova Scotia with information on math assessment, questions aligned with specific curricular outcomes in Grade 9 Math, and useful links on mathematics, assessment, and rubrics. Financial support for this site was provided by Strait Regional Institute for Staff Development, the Program Development Assistance Fund, and the Nova Scotia Department of Education. Following is the structure of our website.

Section One includes information on content, pedagogy, and evaluation in Mathematics with information from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics on Principles and Standards of School Mathematics and Curriculum and Evaluation Standards.

Section Two provides information on Outcomes Based Assessment, Essential Graduation Learnings, the five Unifying Ideas in Mathematics, and The General Curriculum Outcomes for math. You can also print a two-page copy of the fifty-three specific curricular outcomes for Grade 9 Math.

Section Three contains multiple choice, short answer, and extended response questions which the teachers may use in their classes or for tests and exams. These questions are organized according to Specific Curricular Outcomes addressed so that you will be able to find a question aligned with any outcome at the Grade 9 level.

Section Four contains useful links on assessment, mathematics, and rubrics.
